Cat Jones

Cat Jones is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, writer and curator. Her work investigates concepts of human and inter-species empathy, sexual and gender politics  through language, anthropomorphism and scientific research.  She has collaborated with many artists and groups including Chicks on Speed, The League of Imaginary Scientists, Blast Theory, pvi collective, Experimenta, One Extra Dance. She was Artistic Director of PACT Centre for Emerging Artists 2009 – 2012, Co-director of Electrofringe 2006-2007 and inaugural Chairperson 2008-2010.  Cat is a member of the CIA Studio Residencies and Creative Australia New Work assessment panels.

In 2012 Cat was awarded a Creative Australia Fellowship from the federal government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body. She has previously been artist in residence at OSCIEN (QLD), Bundanon Trust (NSW), fo.am (BEL), point b (NY), SymbioticA (WA), Bondi Waverley (NSW) and Wired Lab (NSW). Her recent work has been presented at psi19 (Stanford), point B (New York), Proximity Festival (Perth) PICA 2013 and FAC 2014, WIRED OPEN DAY (Muttama), and Adhocracy (Adelaide) 2014 and 643 project space (Ventura, CA) 2015.  Cat is a recipient of a Synapse Residency Grant from Australian Network of Art and Technology to work with leading neuroscientists from around Australia in 2014. In 2015 she will travel to Los Angeles for research at the Institute of Art and Olfaction; and present Somatic Drifts in July at Art of Pain Conference Exhibition, Hawke Centre Gallery.
